Born To Do This

I am not afraid… I was born to do this.—Joan of Arc

This an excellent quote because it puts everything perspective. We use our fear as a tether to keep us from doing the things we most desire. However, Joan understood that she was born to do and discovered and accepted what that was. Most of us know what we’re born to do, we just have to develop it and become what that is. There is no need to be afraid of what we already have inside us. We always had the ability inside us to be what we wanted to become. What we can do comes naturally to us; therefore, we do because it gives us satisfaction, not fear. Each one of us has a knack we do well without thinking about it. That’s what we should build on instead of what we can’t do well. That’s what give us happiness.

Thinks He Is Able

“He is able who thinks he is able.”— Buddha

The secret of success and achievement is to believe in one’s self. If we think that we’re able, then we will act as though we’re able. We already have many abilities that we take for granted because we forget that it has taken us some time to acquire through experiences. Everyday we have an opportunity to use our abilities and we do. If we’re able to speak to one person, then we’re able to speak in front of an audience.  When we think we are able, there is no doubt in our minds, and we just do based on our background of experiences. The possibilities are endless to what we can do with our abilities only if we think we’re able.  The mind is a very powerful organ because we can think it and then execute that thought.

We Are Here To Live

The Meaning to Life
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We don’t stop growing or learning when we accomplish something. Life is not over when we accomplish something. Our accomplishments are just the icing on the cake of our experiences. We are here to live life. Life is not necessarily about getting the grand prize at the end, but about living. Each time we accomplish our goal, we gain confidence in ourselves to continue on what make us happy in life. Our accomplishments reinforce the need to express our idea into something we can teach or at least talk about our ideas outside our minds with one another. We don’t have to lose sight on what is important in life. Learning, living and experiencing each day is all we need to express our satisfaction about life.

Trust

“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.”— Benjamin Spock

Trusting ourselves is very important to relating to others. If we don’t trust ourselves, then we will have a hard time building trust with others. The key is building trust. No one is asking to trust anybody. Trusting in another takes time and a lot of experiences together with another, but to begin to trust another starts with relating to the other person. The level of trust in ourselves are the reflection of the level of trust in another. Trusting ourselves means to rely on our own abilities while trusting another’s abilities.

Accepting Our Abilities

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We ought to accept what we already have instead of always looking for a way to acquire new abilities. Once we accept our own abilities, then we can build on them. It is a lot easier to build on what we already have then to build on something we don’t have.  We ought to be thankful for what we can do and not be envious of other’s abilities that we don’t have. We all play a part in the world.  We all have different abilities. We are all unique individuals with unique abilities that contribute to society.

Are You Unable Or Are You Able?

“He is able who thinks he is able.”
― Gautama Buddha

In order words, if we think we’re unable, then we will demonstrate this in our action. We will quickly dismiss without considering the possibility that we may be able to do something we might want to accomplish in our live. For us to know what we’re able or unable to do, we must take some sort of actions to find out. Our actions are never wasted unless we don’t learn from them. How do we know if we don’t act and readjust our behaviors accordingly?  It is nice to know something about ourselves that we didn’t know before and we will surely be surprised when it is revealed.

It’s Okay To Push Yourself, A Little

It’s okay to push ourselves a little to get the ball rolling. It’s okay to put a little pressure on ourselves when we want to meet a deadline. However, we don’t want to keep the pressure on us for hours on end, we do need to take breaks during this process so we can be most effective in completing the task we want done. Sometimes we do need a push to start a project for sure when we’re procrastinating. And putting on a little pressure on ourselves can help us to determine what our limitation are as well as our strengths. Sometimes, we assume some things we think we can’t do without trying it first. Even trying it once doesn’t really mean anything unless we keep at it until there is progress made.

We Can’t Do Everything, So Pick One

We can’t do everything well, but we can at least do one thing well.  Once we find the skill we can do, let us do it well. We can be grateful we can do it well, because others will call upon us for help. If we do the skill long enough, then we can become the expert in the field. But if we constantly try to be the jack of all trades, we will thin ourselves out and no work will get done. When we do our best in a skill, we’re using our strengths and not our weaknesses. The skill is the expression of our strength.

When We Second Guest Our Abilities

Walking
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We don’t have to second guess our abilities.  For example, we know how to walk so we don’t have to wonder if we’re going to start walking once we place our feet on the ground.

Walking is so automatic that we don’t have to think about it. When we doubt our abilities, we become conscious about it. It begins to feel unnatural like walking consciously.

With any skills that were learned and transferred unconsciously to the storehouse of our mind, should stay in our unconscious mind. However, things that aren’t useful that we have learned can be brought to forefront our minds and changed and the corrected change become unconscious again.

Putting Pressure On Ourselves

Pressure gauge
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We have all experienced pressure in our lives. However, most pressures are what we put on ourselves, because we want things done in a certain way at a certain time.

Also, the pressure comes from trying to get a lot of things done quickly and simultaneously. Our bodies react to the pressures we’ve created in our minds.

We first must quiet our minds and then figure out what needs to be done first. Once we began completing things our stress levels will go down while our energy levels will go up.

The needed energy will be a great factor in completing the rest of things that are causing us pressure.

If we find ourselves thinking too much about doing what we need to complete, we are wasting energy and time when we could be doing those things we’re thinking of doing.

We Have the Ability to Go Against Our Resistances

Jon's Bowflex
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have the ability to learn. We have the ability to experience. We have the ability to think, plan and execute the most basic of things.  If we have these abilities then how come we have so little faith in ourselves to do the things we desire the most?

What we desire usually is a life-changing event. Also what we desire or what goals we want to obtain usually requires of us great labor. If we want to make things happen, we must go against our resistances.

Going against our resistances mean staying focus, even though we don’t feel like working on the project or experiencing doubts, we must do it anyway. When we do it anyway in spite of our lack of motivation or self-doubts, we begin to learn about self-discipline.

If the mind is disciplined, then the rest of body will obey and carry out what is necessary to obtain or complete the goal.

Accepting All Parts of Us

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Do we know ourselves? If we knew more about ourselves, we could make better decisions. It’s all right to have our likes as well as know about our dislikes. It’s all right to have strengths as well as know about our weaknesses.

It’s all right to feel vulnerable in front of close friends. It’s all right to feel  secure in ourselves as well as know about our insecurities.  Life isn’t about being perfect but being genuine and honest with ourselves, which means to accept all parts of us.

We’re more accepting of each other when we show our humanity and our vulnerability than if we show our superiority.  Showing superiority is only a cover up for feeling inferior.

It’s all right to know that about ourselves, because when we see this superiority complex in others, we’re not so quick to react to them but to express our understanding and acceptance.

Different Personalities; Different Perspectives

Reality is the Sum of all Perspectives 4/4
Written By Eugene Morgan

We ought not let others define who we are as people.  Sometimes we think that because someone wants us to be a certain way doesn’t mean there is something wrong with us. We’re all unique people.  Each of us looks at the world slightly different.

Sometimes, we find ourselves wanting to define or to change someone’s personality. We ought to leave the other person alone because he or she will, for the most part, find his or her own way through life just as we’re finding our own way.

Variety of personalities is better than everyone trying to fit into one type of personality.   We need different perspectives and different gifts and talents to give as citizens of the universe.

“I win Olympic Championships”

“Out of a wheelchair I win Olympic championships all the time.” Milton Erickson

As you can see from most of Erickson’s quotes, he’s good at turning a phrase. It’s interesting how he links “a wheelchair” with winning “olympic championships” together. The message he wants us to get is that in spite of  our limitations, we don’t have to yield to them.  Erickson made himself an example for people around him that he set goals and carry them out even in a wheelchair. All of us have different kinds of limitations that get in the way of our goals. Erickson wants us to stop looking at our  limitations, and start looking toward our goals we set  and win championships. It’s also interesting that Erickson didn’t say he won the state, national, or international championships, he said Olympic championships.  In other words, he’s saying be unafraid to go for the big win—go for gold!
