Choices That Make Us

Choice

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us. — Andrew Ryan

Whatever a choice we make in life always has the potential to change us somehow. We become molded by the choices we make. Up to now, we have made many choices. In fact, we make choices everyday without thinking. We know through trial and error generally speaking as to what choice is useful and what choice is not. There were times in our past that we made life-changing choices and there will be more in our future. Usually, these life-changing choices are when we’re going through some transitional period in our life that everyone experiences.  We’ve made wrong choices and right choices. In fact, we will continue to make the wrong and right choices through out our lifetime. We have to make choices in our lives to continue to move along in the world. We can’t live without choices.

When Moments Become Memories

Take the moment and make it perfect!

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. — Dr. Seuss

It is quite an experience when we reminisce about the past especially with friends and/or family who share the same experience. During this time of reminiscing, there is always someone in the group that would say, “Those were the good old days,” or “Those were innocent times.”  These quotes are implying to the moments we’ve experienced over time. We like to reminisce because they are shared experiences. The shared experiences become valuable as the years go by because they are special moments in time.  We had eventful milestones in our lives that somehow changed the course of our lives. Those are the things we cherish most as we get older. And there were things in our past that seemed at the time insignificant are now significant. It is better to not take things for granted today because they would be missed tomorrow.

Be More Of Value

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” — Albert Einstein

Success is more about us and value is more about others. When we were kids, we all wanted to grow up to be something and be successful at it. That means spending time working on ourselves to become what we see ourselves in the future doing. We don’t have to perceive success something bad or good but something we want to do and have the desire doing it. Just as we want others to be of value for us and also the same rings true that we want to be of value for others. That’s very important to us because we want to somehow feel useful for another person.  When we want to be of value for others, we’re thinking about how best to serve them instead of thinking about how can I be successful in this or that. We can use our experiences from our success and use them to be more of value toward others.

Appeal To Reality

The past exists only in our memories, the future only in our plans. The present is our only reality. — Robert Pirsig

This is an interesting quote because not only Robert Pirsig mentions the past, future, present, but also he mentions them in terms of our experiences of the past, future and present. The past exists because of our memories. The future exists only through our planning. The present exists only when we’re mindful of the fact of what we’re doing right now. Our memories are the result of our past experiences that we carry with us wherever we go. We plan for the futures because we anticipate unmet needs. However, the present is our gift to do whatever to fulfill those unmet needs. Things become real when we’re moving them along. When we look back on yesterday, we see evidences that something was done. We see that as our proof that we can continue doing the task that will eventually fulfill a need or a want in our lives.

Choose The Pain Of Discipline

Everyone must choose one of two pains: The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. — Jim Rohn

In everyone’s life there are pain of discipline and pain of regret. We all know from our own experiences that what we want will require from us self-discipline. Discipline becomes painful when we want to play. Discipline requires of us to focus and concentrate on a task without being distracted on other external cues. Regrets make us look back on the promises we made for ourselves to do things but failed to keep. That’s what makes regret feel so painful. Although the pain of discipline can intensifies at the beginning, middle and ending, the pain of regret can last a lifetime.  The wisdom that we all acquired through our experiences knows what to choose, and that is discipline.

Experience Enlightens the Mind

Enlightenment

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

The best way to get an understanding about life or about anything, we must go through some sort of experience. Book learning is good but we can only go so far with it. We both need information from a book and information from our experiences. Experiences help us to widen our scope on things. We begin to see things in a different light or angle that we haven’t seen before. When our perspective starts to change, we see that we have more options, thus more opportunities. It is hard to see opportunities when our view is narrow. It is hard to understand how someone continuously succeeds in life. This is because the person’s success was based on a certain mind set. It was a mind-set that creates an atmosphere of success. It is a bit of a combination of a mind-set, some information, determination and executing a plan.

From Doubt To Courage

Doubt

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have experiences with doubt, but we also have experiences with courage. Doubt can plague our abilities to do what we desire and want. Having courage is our understanding that in spite of doubts we will do things anyway to fulfill a desire or a want. Doubts are in our head and courage is in our hearts. The more we do what we set out to do, the more our doubts will usually decrease. Doubts are occupying thoughts that use a lot of our brainpower. The power we need to fulfill our needs and wants. We can’t turn off the doubting thoughts but we don’t have to pay attention to them. Instead we can place our attention on the goals with courage.

Limitations and Potentials

Potential

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have experienced our limitations but somehow we got around them when we wanted to pursue our dreams. We realized that we had to let go of some biases for us to move beyond our limitations. We don’t deny what was limiting to us. And, we don’t accept the fact that our limitations define us. We have a greater purpose than our limitations.  Some of our limitations are visible to others while some of our limitations are invisible which we can easily keep hidden.  However, we cannot ignore the fact that we have potentials waiting for us to be discovered. Our resources make up those potentials, which was accumulated through our experiences. So no experiences are wasted when we can learn from them and to use in some useful today.

Take The Joy With You

La Peyrecout - Swimming Pool with View

After a long day of hard work, it is all right to enjoy ourselves. Wherever we go, we can enjoy ourselves, because we take the joy with us. We have many ways to enjoy ourselves. We can enjoy ourselves walking through a park, swimming in a nice cool pool during a hot summer day, or we can enjoy ourselves dining out with friends or family. Enjoying ourselves is the expression of what we do that makes us happy and to share that joy with others in our live. Joy is a positive feeling when we get when we experience life as it is. When we accept things that are out of our control, we’re letting go of things that worry us. Those things that worry us can bring down our energy and zap our joy. But experiencing the feelings of joy is what make us feel good inside.
