It Takes A Single Thought

Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.— Benjamin Disraeli

Since we can only go as far as are thoughts, we might as well think of great thoughts. What we think is what we are and do. If we say, that we can’t do this, then we won’t even try to find out if we could do it. But if we say, I can do this, and then at least we can give ourselves the opportunity to try. And if we say, that we really want this, then we will not just try, instead we would set a goal, devise a plan to meet that goal, and complete each tasks daily until we reach our goal. Our thoughts are very powerful so we might as well use them to our advantage. It only takes a single thought to change a whole life.

Going Beyond Our Limitations

beyond

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.”— Albert Einstein

This quote above demonstrates that acceptance can be very powerful, instead of thinking that we’re the only ones with a limitation or limitations. Everyone we know has limitations especially the ones that we look up to. When we hide our limitations from others, we’re hiding our limitations from ourselves. Therefore, we haven’t accepted the fact that we have them and we must deal with them as they present themselves in our lives. We carry our limitations everywhere we go so they’re a constant reminder. We don’t have to see our limitations as dead ends but we can see them as milestones that we have reached or obtained. In other words, our focus shouldn’t be on our limitations, but instead on what can we do to achieve our goals. Our limitations are just part of us, they don’t have to define us.

One Step and One Breath At A Time

That very first step ...

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Our way to practice is one step at a time, one breath at a time.”— Shunryu Suzuki

If we practice this lesson in the above quote, we would go a long way in our journey in life. We can accomplish so much if we just focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to rush things along.  We would get more satisfying experiences if we just practice accomplishing our goal one step at a time. We may have not learned something as much if we kept our sights at the end of the goal. Accomplishing our goals always feels good at the end but experiencing the journey is what we will always remember and cherish for the rest of our lives.

Another Goal

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”— C. S. Lewis

When we set a goal, we imagine ourselves completing the goal. When we set a goal, we are oriented ourselves to a near or distance future. A goal gives us a reason to move into the future. We want to see ourselves accomplishing something that was first an idea that will turn into fruition. A goal is simply thriving to do something else other than the usual routine. For a goal to be accomplished, we have to develop some sort of mindset that can help us to stay on track without the distractions of doubts. If we move an inch daily closer to our goal, then sooner or later we will get there. It is also all right to enjoy the process of getting there.

When We Keep Our Eyes On the Goal

“Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.”

― E. Joseph Cossman

When we’re focused on a goal, that’s all we see. Yes, we will have obstacles along the way because that’s part of the process. We ought not to allow obstacles to discourage us from continuing with completing our goal(s). Most everything we do for the first time will have greater amount of obstacles because we’re still learning.  Once we master the skill, we will notice that the obstacles have shrunk and we can easily manage our goal.

Continue Doing What Works

2014 Calendar
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

After reflecting on what we have done this year, it is time to start thinking about what we want to accomplish next year. It is time for us to continue doing what worked on in 2013 into 2014. To do new goals, we’ve got to find out what skills we already have first and use them before we worry about learning a new skill to carry out our goals.  We have a greater chance of achieving our goals with self-discipline and consistency in the work we do.  We definitely need self-discipline when it requires working on our goals each day. It is also important that we find satisfaction and purpose in the work we do.

It’s Okay To Push Yourself, A Little

It’s okay to push ourselves a little to get the ball rolling. It’s okay to put a little pressure on ourselves when we want to meet a deadline. However, we don’t want to keep the pressure on us for hours on end, we do need to take breaks during this process so we can be most effective in completing the task we want done. Sometimes we do need a push to start a project for sure when we’re procrastinating. And putting on a little pressure on ourselves can help us to determine what our limitation are as well as our strengths. Sometimes, we assume some things we think we can’t do without trying it first. Even trying it once doesn’t really mean anything unless we keep at it until there is progress made.

But We Can Change Our Future

Five Past Eleven

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

There is nothing we can do about our past, but we can change our future. If we don’t like the way our life is going, then we can start making a change now. We don’t have to wait for change to come, instead we can make the initiative to change things now. Now is the best time to start a change, because if we start to change things tomorrow, tomorrow may turn into weeks, weeks may turn into months, months may turn into one year, one year may turn into two years, and so on. Two years could have been enough time do what’s needed to alter our future. The decisions we make now will influence our future.   If we want to alter our future, then we must start meeting our goals we set for ourselves today.

Push Through Doubts

Lots of things that couldn’t be done have been done. ~ Charles Auston Bates

There are things that others have done; we can do too. If another human person can do it, then we have the possibility to do it as well. We may need training or schooling or more training, but it can be done. If we want it bad enough, then we will carry out our goals. We just have to believe in our selves and develop our potentials into abilities. Daily practice helps us to get closer to our goals. We got to push through our doubts and see how far we can go. We know that our doubts can hold back our potentials and dreams, but with courage we won’t have to hold back instead push through.

When Feelings Come and Go

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Feelings come and feelings go. We ought to realize we can’t depend on feelings when it comes to starting and completing a project or a task. But most of the time we do feel good after working hard all day.

Even the smallest things we do can give us a feeling of accomplishment.  Starting something new can be the hardest thing to overcome, because we’re truly battling with our thoughts, questioning us about whether this will be worth our time and energy.

These internal conflicts can be settled if we think about the pros and the cons of tasks and what are the risks.

The part of us that’s resistance to starting something new just want to be assured that we’re going to get something out of it, such as, payment, enjoyment, experience, and reward that will help us in the long run.

Risks will always be involved in anything we do. Mistakes big or small will happen. Mistakes are for us to learn and improve.

Experience is Far Better than Reward

EXPERIENCES

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

A reward is just a reinforcer for doing a service of some kind. What we learn from our journey is what’s important. Every one of us has journeys. A journey is something we experience for a certain time. The greatest journey is about experiencing life and how we want to experience it through various means. Those means are things that we dream about and care about that we want to do to make our lives better. To make our lives better requires persistence and great labor and the stick-to-it-ness to see even slightest change.  As long as we continue to move toward the direction of our goals, we will be rewarded by our efforts. And that the experience itself is the better reward because we gain more during that time of acquiring new learnings to strengthen us for the long run.

Keep Working On Your Goals

“There are only two mistakes one can make on the road to truth; not going all the way and not starting.” ~Buddha

It is easy to set goals, but it is difficult to complete them. If we keep working on our goals, then there is a chance that we might success.

The road to completing ours goals will be the most difficult one. When things are difficult to achieve, we sometimes run the other direction.

Running the other direction, only keep us from working on our goals; and we lose the opportunities to learn.

Besides, having a difficult challenge is good for us, especially, when we achieve what we set out to do.

We will look back and see that the hard work was all worth doing. While in the trenches of working on our goals, it’s difficult to see what progress we have made until the project is done.

Finding Our Own Discoveries

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

When we want to go to the next level of growth, it’s sometimes difficult to see ourselves at a higher level of growth. And yet we see someone else at that level of what we so desire.

So we investigate on how to get there— maybe finding out their secret to success. Someone else’s secret to success may not necessarily work for us. The person’s secret to success is really from his or her own self-discovery.

They found out on their own what worked for them. That’s the lesson we can learn is that we have to discovery what success means to us, and what direction we want to go to achieve success and how far we want to go.

It’s about self-discovery because when we know what our likes and dislikes are, and what our weaknesses and ours strengths are then we  can know what course of action to take to go to next level.

Be In The Trenches

When anticipating on how difficult a task will be, it’s harder to start and complete it. But when we do start on the task and keep our attention focus on the task at hand, there are usually no doubting and/or nagging thoughts about the tasks itself.

In other words, when we’re in the trenches of a task, our focus is no longer on distractions but on the work.  Although, our goal is to complete the task, the process of the task can be rewarding.

With that kind of focus, the back of our minds is finding better ways of doing an effective job. We learn better while we’re doing the task. While we’re learning our way through a task, we’re getting feedback on what is working and what isn’t working.

Have You Started Your List Yet?

To-do list book.
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

If we’re going to do something, we can write a to-do-list. A list makes things real not imagined. After we write a list, we can promise ourselves to at least do one or two things off the list.

Our goal isn’t to complete a list in one day, but to start it. Some of us may have a list of items that need more time while others may need a short time to complete.

It’s seems important to work on it daily to keep the momentum going.  Having multiple projects can be overwhelming and paralyzing to a point where procrastination can set in.

If we start slow but keep up a steadiness, we then can complete our projects. Sometimes we do have deadlines to meet but if we have an early start on our projects, then we have the opportunity to put in the time to complete them.

Today is all we have

Today is all we have.  We can’t think about tomorrow when we only have today. But if we do think about tomorrow, then we should plan for tomorrow.

Certainly, we have today to do what we can do to work toward our goals we’ve set for this year. There are 24 hours in a day. Yes we do have responsibilities to take care of.

We can schedule our goals between our responsibilities. We can’t blame our responsibilities for not getting our goals completed. We still have to take out the garbage and brush our teeth.

We just have to make our goals another part of our daily routine.  Life doesn’t have to stop for us to complete our goals. But we can start working on our goals since we only have today.

Start Today, Not Tomorrow

@ Work
Written By Eugene Morgan

Procrastination likes to eat our time up. Why do we wait for tomorrow to start a new project, when we have today? We do expect tomorrow will come, but what is certain is that we have today.

Today is a time for productivity, because if we don’t start now, we will both stall on the project and start it a year from now or we won’t ever start a project at all.

This is why we have reasoning, because we can’t rely on a feeling to motivate us to start a new project; feelings come and feelings go. However, when we do start a project today, eventually our feelings will follow.

Why Goals

Train Tracks
Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we give up too soon on a dream or a goal, because it seems so big, or we worry about what others may think. It’s easy to come up with excuses than to trek through the goals we set for ourselves.

Sometimes, we doubt ourselves way before we start working on the goal.  Goals are opportunities for personal growth.  Goals are deliberate.  Goals awaken our potentials. Goals are rewarding when completed.

There are short-term goals and long-term goals.  Long-term goals are mini short-term goals met steadily. Meeting short-term goals are like connecting another piece of train track for the wheel of a cart to move forward.  It’s sound tedious, because part of work will be tedious, but it’s necessary.

Plan a Change

Spare change (48/365)
Written by Eugene Morgan

It’s up to us to make a change.  We have the power within ourselves to make a change, if we want to.  If we want to improve our lives, we then have to decide to improve it.  After we decide to improve our situation, we then can write-up a plan.  After a plan is in place, we then can execute the plan until it’s completed.

No other person can make the change for us. In other words, relying on someone to make a change is useless; it won’t ever happen.  When we rely on someone, we are giving away our power. Ultimately, we know what we want in life so it’s better to ask ourselves, “What do I want for my life?” and we then can make a plan and execute it, because within us we have the power.

“If you want it you must obtain it by great labor,” T.S. Eliot.

Desire to Meet Life’s Goals

Written by Eugene Morgan

We all have desires to meet life’s goals in our lives.  There are some goals that’s left undone. Unmet goals equal a feeling of regrets. Regrets only remind us of our incomplete projects, our procrastination, our idleness, and our indecision.

But to meet our life’s goals, we must learn to complete things.  We can start by completing small projects that are manageable.  Milton Erickson say we’re simple creatures, therefore keep projects as simple as we can.

Sometimes, we have too many goals or projects we try to do and we end up getting lost in the distraction and not focused on completing things.  Doing one project at a time keeps our undivided attention on nothing but the project that’s in front of us.

We live in a culture that wants things done quickly. But if we take the time in the beginning, we can save a lot of time later.
