Happiness Is Within

here's that bit I was looking for
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

As soon as we wish to be happier, we are no longer happy. ~ Walter Landon

We don’t have to look for happiness because it comes from within. Happiness is a state. We experiences different states throughout our day. And happiness is one of them. We need to experience other states for us to appreciate the state of happiness.  We as humans place values or importance on things that makes us happy.  A farmer is happy when he’s mowing a lawn.  A math teacher is happy when a student begins to understand a math problem.  A runner is happy when she hits a milestone. So there are different kinds of things that can make a person happy.

Finding Our Gift

Everyone has a gift. Since each of us is unique, our gifts are expressed in a unique way. It’s all right to admire someone else’s gift. It’s also all right to allow others to admire our gifts. The purpose of our gifts is to be a contributor to the world. Some of our gifts are in the latent stages of development. They haven’t been fully developed. For a gift to reach maturity, the climate has to be right. A mentor can create an atmosphere for us to express our gifts in a safe place. Using our gift can give us a purpose and meaning in our lives.

Hasty Generalizations Are Lies

Thoughts
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

If we keep telling ourselves that we can’t do something because of our background, then it will continue to be true. We don’t have to believe in the self-defeating thoughts that keep us from doing what we want or wish to do.  Most of those thoughts are hasty generalizations. Just because we fail at one thing doesn’t mean we are a failure at everything. Hasty generalizations are just lies that needs to be challenged when we’re confronted by them.  We got to challenge our generalizations and be realistic about ourselves on what we can do. We should always put our best foot forward first before we make an opinion about what we can’t do.

Learning From Others

We can learn from others. If we listen closely to someone, we will learn something about ourselves and about that person. We can learn things from all kinds of people. We can learn from books but to really understand life, learning from others and their interest can really be an education. And we always love it when someone shows interest in what we’re doing. In that same way, if we give that person our undivided attention, you will have a friendship for life. The benefit of listening to someone else is that our lives will be enriched as well.

Strength In Will

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” ˜ Mahatma Gandhi

In other words Gandhi is saying that our will is greater than our physical capacity. We have heard stories about extraordinary feats of survival that seems impossible. Our will is a desire combined with determination. If we determine to do something, in spite of obstacles we will do it. Through our determination we will see to it that the mission is completed. When we fall, with determination we will get back up.

Invest In Time

TIME FLIES.....................*

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Time is all we have. While we have time, we should use it effectively and wisely. When we’re with family and friends, time is well spent. Invest in time now so we can see the fruit of our labor tomorrow. Time is our opportunity to work on things today while we hope that more time will be available tomorrow. Time seems slow while we’re bored and time seems fast while we’re preoccupied. Time can be a friend or a foe depending on the situation. The clock is only one experience of time. Time allows us to wait. Time let us breath the air around us and time allows us to have a good night sleep.

Unless We Do

Window of opportunity
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Nothing will work unless you do.” ˜ Maya Angelou

It always starts with us if we want to make progress. Our action is the main ingredient to make something work. Thinking about doing it will not work either. Avoiding the inevitable to do is just our waste of time. There is a greater possibility that something will work if we do, than if we sat idle. Yes, fear can hold us back unless we let it. Sometimes, we’re too quick to assume that nothing will work that we dismiss it without ever trying. Before we dismiss it, let us do confidently and with optimism then the possibility becomes greater for something to work.

Good Luck

Sometimes we have good luck and sometimes we have bad luck. However, we don’t have to add to the bad luck; life is already difficult. We can place our attention on what we’re thankful for, and, what we have, instead of what we don’t have. The one person will always have something a little better than the next person. We can’t have everything in life but we can make choices based on what’s important to us. What we hold dear to our hearts is what we follow. It’s okay to dream and to follow our dreams. Following our dreams can take us places and meet interesting people along the way.

Stop Trying Harder

When we continue to try and then try harder without any results, then it’s possible that we need to look at the situation or problem differently.  We don’t want to waste our time waiting for a different result when we’re using the same approach. Problem solving is always about what’s working and what’s not working. What’s not working is just as important as what’s working, because we can gain valuable information that can helps us to be most effective. Feedback is better than self-criticism. Self-criticism is only an expression of anger and frustration that’s based on a certain standard we place on ourselves. Instead, we can think about what’s not working and then alter our approach.

Give Yourself Some Credit

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we forget to give ourselves some credit. When we complete something or accomplish something, we need to reward ourselves for the work we have done. We need to do this for ourselves to keep moving forward in what we’re doing. It is nice to please others, however, we ultimately decide on our own to do the things that interest us. Therefore, we need to give ourselves credit rather than waiting on praises of others. We ultimately need to please ourselves because we are going to be the first one to be disappointed in ourselves when we allow distractions in our lives and not do what we set out to accomplish.

Let Things Happen

Post Written Eugene Morgan

Sometimes, we got to let things happen, instead of trying to control the situation. We don’t have to win every battle or be right all of the time. Sometimes, others just need to vent and that’s okay. Sometimes, we’re too quick in giving our own opinion or solution to a problem. We just need to have a listening ear for someone.  We can only give suggestions that might help them, but it is up to the person to take them or leave them. If we sit back and absorbed the situation, maybe we will have a better understanding on what’s going on before we make a suggestion.

We All Have A Story To Tell

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have a story to tell. In fact, we have more than one story to tell. When we listen to a story, for us to comprehend it, we have to listen to it through our background of learned experiences. While we’re listening, we’re sorting through our experiences.  Through listening we begin to reevaluate our beliefs creating something of change in us. Stories can emotionally move us. Stories can alter our way of thinking. Stories can open up our minds for better understanding of things. Stories can help heal wounds if we let them. Stories can gather together a large group of people. Stories are magical because they can make a mind believe that it can do powerful things.

Stir A Fire Within Me

The fire within

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“That living word(w-a-t-e-r) awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy set it free!” ˜ Helen Keller

Helen Keller discovered that she could learn. Before this discovery, she’d known only darkness. Before this discovery, she’d experienced grief and sorrow through her deafness and blindness. Her deafness and her blindness were once her limitations. But something inside her wanted to learn and her special teacher seemed to pull her out from the bottom of a well. Her learning to read and write was the bright light that she had experienced.  We all experienced feeling limited in some fashion. Helen was a tenacious learner. Even in her frustration, she didn’t give up in spite of her limitations. It is nice when things begin to click after long and grueling hours trying to understand something.

The Treasure Is Within Us

Light Gazing
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Why do we look for treasures outside of us to find satisfaction?  The external things that we see around us are the result of our inner treasure. All the things that were created by us are the expressions of our inner self.  Whether it is useful or not, it is in our nature to create something. We can’t help ourselves but to make things. The thing that was made was once an idea first formed in our mind. The idea was born probably out of necessity, and then planned, and, through trial and error was made into something real that we can touch. This is where we can find our satisfaction.

Brainstorming

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Brainstorming can be useful. Brainstorming frees us from our biases. We don’t have to be critical about what pops up in our minds. Brainstorming allows us to discover more about ourselves. We can discover what we’ve thought about but that we weren’t aware. Brainstorming brings out surprises and aha moments. Brainstorming helps us to discover how narrow our thinking is and to realize how much we’ve suppressed things. Although, there will be things that come up that sound silly, but if we can think of a way to use them, then it won’t be as silly as we think. Brainstorming can helps us look at a problem in all directions.

Having Courage

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We know we have the resources and the ability to do it. We just need courage to just do it. Courage is really the lesson to be learned. Courage is about putting ourselves out there with risks that may hurt us. Criticism is inevitable in life. We just need to go with the punches. When we fall down, we just need to get back up with dignity. We will never please everyone and not everyone can please us. One person can’t please another all the time. Courage is our only security in life. Once we begin to feel confidence in doing what we feel uncertain about, then we won’t feel indecisive about doing the next uncomfortable thing.

Being Inflexible

Inflexible

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

If we want to go beyond the limitation of our belief, we must be flexible. We must be willing to be flexible, if we want to make progress. The things we’ve done in the past before will only work for so long, and when this happens, we need to readjust our behaviors and be willing to learn and try new things. That means being open to suggestions from others and doing research to find another way. Change is inevitable so we might as well be a part it instead of resisting.

Without Regrets

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Regretting is about looking back on what we didn’t do. We didn’t act when we knew that’s the only way to move beyond ourselves. We made up excuses. We doubted ourselves. We didn’t want to let go of our comfort. We got to tolerate discomfort if we want to produce growth. We don’t have time for regrets. We have the remainder of our lives to put forth effort to do—to make action. That’s the only way to make things happen. We have to push to create momentum to move things forward. Idleness only keeps things the same but action creates an opportunity for growth.

Don’t Forget To Laugh

Based Laughter
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Life is difficult enough for all of us. It is how we deal with it is important. Sometimes, we must give ourselves a break from the hardship of life and laugh with friends and family. It’s a balance act. Some of us can be caught up in life’s problems and we forget to laugh. Laughter is a good mental medicine for life. Laughing supports the health of our body. Laughter can break up silence in a room. Laughter changes the room from black and white to a rainbow of colors. Laughter is a result of looking at something in a positive light.

Progress Is Just Below The Surface

Below the Surface
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Today is the first day of spring, but if you look outside in some places winter seems to linger. However, today can be a renewal to recommit to our resolutions that some us have made at the beginning of the year. Just as new plants are sprouting through, we can with our resolutions.  We just have to form new habits to work on it daily to begin to see things happening. Progress can be slow at times before we can see the fruit of our labor. We mustn’t give up just because we don’t see progress yet. Progress starts when we begin the process of doing the work. Progress is just below the surface; we just can’t see it yet.
