Relax, Be Yourself

Relaxing in Jardin du Luxembourg
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.” ~Chinese Proverb

Indeed we create our own tension because we think we ought to be a certain way. Acceptance is important when it comes to our self. We need not try to be someone we’re not but be what we already are. Once we accept and feel comfortable in our own skin then we can give ourselves permission to grow and expand into being our best self. So let us relax being who we are instead of creating tension to be someone we’re not.

Control

Controlling external events won’t change the way we feel. It is an illusion. Because we feel out of control doesn’t mean we are. It’s those thoughts in our head that increases our anxiety that can make us feel out of control. So we have this need within us to control external events around us to feel again in control. We use various behaviors to get the feeling of control back into our lives. If we expect others to behave a certain way all the time, then we set ourselves up for disappointment.  It is better to change the way we think and lowering our expectations can help with this. We can also work on what thoughts we’re saying to ourselves that make us feel like we’re out of control.

Thinking And Doing

Get Lost
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all know that we got to think things through before we proceed. But sometime we over think something that we get paralysis from it so we don’t do anything at all. It’s best to think and do. Thinking and doing help us to find out what works and what doesn’t work. We need to use our hand and our wit to find a way to make something work, to solve problems, and to find creativity. We don’t want to just do and not think at all because then we will find ourselves repeating the same thing expecting a different outcome. Instead of doing the same thing over and over again, we can use our thinking to find another way that might work.

Small Easy Tasks

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we get so frustrated with ourselves when we want to make a change but don’t follow through.  When it comes to change, following through is the hardest part because of the belief in our minds that we can’t do it or it’s too difficult or I’m too tired or I don’t have time. It is these beliefs are what stop us from going through with the change in our life. For change to happen certain tasks are require of us to do. If we break down the task in small easy tasks, then they can be a lot easier to carry out.

Dedicated To A Purpose

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have a purpose. Some of us don’t know what that purpose is in our life. If we find purpose in our life, then can commit to it and be dedicated. We find meaning in our purpose. Since we are all unique people, we all have different purposes. We enrich one another through our differences and diversity. When we have a purpose, we want to be dedicated. When we have a purpose, we don’t mind spending the extra time it sometimes takes to do the work. There is a satisfaction or a labor of love when there is a purpose and meaning to the work we do.  The more we put in the more we get out of it.

Imagination

Imagination Takes Over (47 de 52 y 1/2)

Nothing can trouble you but your own imagination. ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Our imagination is very powerful. Our imagination can overwhelm us. But we tend to forget that we can use our imagination to comfort ourselves in time of sorrow. We can use our imagination when we are looking for a solution. We can use our imagination to draw on our strength to get through something difficult. When we begin to look for positive images we must give ourselves time for the image to fill our whole mind and body. Instead of replaying negative images, replay positive images until we begin to experience it through our entire body.

Breaking Through

breaking through the jumbled ice
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all know that we have potential. We forget that our potential is in each one of us. In some ways when we forget about the potential within us, then we don’t look for opportunity to develop the skills that come out of our potential. Another reason we may forget about our potentials because we know what it takes for us to develop them into a skill. No matter how we slice it, to develop any skill, it’s going to take some effort. We don’t have to feel overwhelmed about the amount of effort needed to develop something. Breaking out of an old routine into a new routine is where most our efforts will be.

Making A Big Thing Out Of Nothing

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we can make a problem bigger than it really is. When we do make the problem so big, then our stress level goes up.  When we get stressful, we aren’t as effective as we can be in solving the problem because with stress our minds are unclear. And under stress we become impatient and too quick to anger as a result we blame the world for everything that goes wrong. When we do get to this point, we need to sit back and relax and get back to the problem later. When our mind clears up we’re able to think better and the solution will come to us.

It’s Okay To Push Yourself, A Little

It’s okay to push ourselves a little to get the ball rolling. It’s okay to put a little pressure on ourselves when we want to meet a deadline. However, we don’t want to keep the pressure on us for hours on end, we do need to take breaks during this process so we can be most effective in completing the task we want done. Sometimes we do need a push to start a project for sure when we’re procrastinating. And putting on a little pressure on ourselves can help us to determine what our limitation are as well as our strengths. Sometimes, we assume some things we think we can’t do without trying it first. Even trying it once doesn’t really mean anything unless we keep at it until there is progress made.

In Good Time

Fly [37/365]
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Things will happen in good time. We want things to happen quickly, especially when we see others excelling in their projects. We all have a time and a place when things do start to happen in our lives. We just have to be patient and let things unfold without trying to get there quickly. These things have a way of changing our lives so it’s okay to continue working behind the scene until we grow into a point that we can expand our wings and fly.  In the meantime, this is time for growth, practice and working on things until we’re confident in showing our work to the world.

When Criticism Is Constructive

empowered

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we react too quickly when there is a criticism made by someone because of what we did or didn’t do. Our response is like a knee-jerk reaction because our unconscious mind wants to protect our ego. We don’t like criticism because it hurts and we feel a sense of shame and embarrassment. Instead of hurting about it, we can use the hurt and seize the opportunity to improve ourselves. We can turn the criticism into something constructive that can be more helpful to ourselves and to others. When we seize the opportunity to improve ourselves then we are empowered and we feel empowered.

Build A Foundation, First

Building the walls
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Building a solid foundation is about doing our research before we start doing something new. It is easy to jump into something without knowing much about it. Researching it will help us decide how much time we will need to spend on it. There is also a learning curve. All of us have different speeds of learning. Some of us learn quicker than others while some of us take our time to learn the material. But for the learning to stick in our heads, we must start to execute the steps that are needed to complete whatever it is we want to do.

Stay On the Difficult Road

Learning to Walk

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

For us to get ahead it will always require of us great labor. It is never easy to stay on a difficult and long road. But if we stay on the road long enough, we will discover some interesting things about our surroundings and about ourselves. These are the experiences that make life interesting and meaningful. And learning is the vehicle that will take us to places that we have never been before. As long as we’re on this difficult road called life, we might as well learn something from it. Learning makes life fascinating. Learning keeps us focused and less distracted even when times are difficult and when there are constant changes in an uncertain future.

Discounting the Positives

Calm Lake

Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we let one unpleasant event discount our whole day. We find ourselves recalling the event that happened many hours ago to forget about what good things did happen. It is inevitable that unpleasant events will happen and it is inevitable pleasant events will happen as well. Constantly replaying the unpleasant event will only stress us out. Instead, we can start thinking about the pleasant events that occurred that would relax us and lower our stress level to normal.  It takes practice to count the positives that’s always happening in our lives. We have to look for them and when we do find them, we should cherish them as our own because they are our own experiences.

Plan, Then Follow It

Road to Uluru

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Today is the day after the New Year. Now it is time to start working on a plan or continue working on a plan that we have already started.  It is time to focus on what things we plan to do this year to accomplish our goals. Planning out our goals keeps us on track. It is easy to become distracted if we don’t have a plan laid out for us. A plan is like a map that helps us find our way around from point A to point B.  We don’t have to follow the direction precisely; we need a plan just to give us a rough estimate on what we need to do to meet our goal.

A Beginning

Happy New Year!

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Today is a new beginning. There are a lot of opportunities to be had. Today is the first day of 2013. Now what are we going to do today? Today is a time to celebrate 2013. The New Year day is like a rebirth or some sort of renewal.  All of the things we have learned in our previous years we can carry with us into the New Year. We can build on all the previous experiences to help us to prepare for the New Year. This is a new beginning and an opportunity to get stronger as we gain new experiences this year to help build character.

We Have 365 Days Of 2013

New Year's Fireworks

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

It is time to celebrate a new year, 2013. 2013 can be an amazing year or not depends on what we’re going to do with it. Setting realistic goals at the beginning of the year is a good start. What do we hope to do next year  is what we can ask ourselves? Goals can be anything from going on a trip or learning a new language to learning how to play a guitar. There are only 365 days in a year. In those 365 days we do many things. We have 365 days of opportunity to do the things we set our hearts and minds to do. We cannot worry about the uncertainties or the unexpected things that will occur. There are going to be some distractions along the way, which should be expected. There will definitely going to be some disappointments and some setbacks but those things are part of life not our whole life.  We learn and push forward to the next thing.

Time For Reflection

2012 Calendar

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

It is time for us to reflect back on what we have done and haven’t done. It is time to learn from our experiences we have added this year. Have we accomplished what we set out to do and are we satisfied for the work we have done this past year are some of the questions we can ask ourselves? What more can we do to make improvements next year? Did we try to do too many things but end up with unfinished projects? These are some of the questions we can asked ourselves so we can to help us to make better decisions and make improvement. What are we going to do differently that will help us along the way to do better next time? We also can reflect on our successes and the things that we have done.

Meeting A Goal Matters, Not The Speed

Works in Progress

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes it seems like we aren’t getting anywhere with meeting our goals. When progress seems like its going snail pace, then we have to be patient with ourselves. As long as we’re moving towards meeting our goals, then we won’t need to rush progress. But spending the time necessary to meet our goals will matter. If we really want to make progress and complete our goals, then we must spend our time working toward completing our goals.  We can never get back our time that has been wasted over frivolous matters. Nonetheless, today is a gift we mustn’t take for granted but be thankful for another opportunity to make progress in our journey.

Shed Some Light

puzzle
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

In our daily lives we run into some sort of problem that we must solve before we can go forward. At times, we can get frustrated when a solution doesn’t come to us. Getting frustrated with solving a problem will only delay the solution. Repeatedly using the same approach to solve the problem only yields more frustration especially when we’re expecting a different result. So we have to try solving the problem differently that will also help us to look at the problem in a different light. When we look at the problem differently we are forced to expand our scope of the problem so can see as many angles in solving the problem.
